It’s full STEAM ahead as we step into a new school year with 18 S.T.E.A.M.-infused workshops. Stepping Stones Museum for Children is an engine of playful learning with a nationally-recognized track record of success. We provide outstanding exhibits, programs and services for children that contribute to healthy communities around the world. Bring your class or group to the museum to experience the hands-on fun, connect with us virtually or we can bring our special brand of play-based learning to you!

Museum Tour

Our museum staff will take you and your group on an exhibit tour, engage in discussions and help them uncover the many content layers of learning opportunities.
• Self-guided tour: $225 per class
• Guided tour: $300 per class
• 90-minute tours are available daily starting at 9:00 am
• Free admission for adults at a 1:5 ratio
BONUS: Each child will receive a FREE admission pass to Stepping Stones for one child and one adult

Add a Workshop

In addition to your tour, groups can enhance topics being explored with fun, interactive workshops led by a Program Educator.
• Additional $100 per group
• One group per workshop
• Workshops add 45 minutes to the tour

Homeschool Experiences

Homeschool groups of all ages and sizes have a unique opportunity to investigate our multidisciplinary, hands-on exhibits and activities. Link up with other homeschool families for our engaging workshops or a social gathering at the museum.

All workshops integrate Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS), Healthy and Balanced Living Standards, National Standards for K-12 Physical Education, New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards (NYSPLS) and Next Generations Science Standards (NGSS)

Please have the following information ready:

  • Name of organization, contact name, phone number, address, and contact email
  • Grade and number of classes in your group, with number of children and adults per class
  • Name of program(s) you wish to reserve
  • Preferred dates and times
  • Special educational or physical needs of students

Bookings are made a minimum of two weeks out from the date of contact. When making a reservation, please carefully estimate the number of children and adults in your class(es) in order to minimize the difference between your planned and actual participants. We can only hold a reservation with a deposit or full payment.

NOTE: Submission of a registration does not guarantee a reservation. Stepping Stones will try to accommodate your first choice, but reservations are subject to availability and are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Investigate butterflies and discover how they help us better understand the world. In this workshop, explore shapes and colors in nature using butterflies throughout their life stages.

Dinosaurs: Teeth to Tails 

Unearth the past and uncover how dinosaurs were alike and how they were different. Classify them into groups based on their characteristics.

Ramps and Rollers 

Engage in collaborative investigations to explore the cause and effect of force and motion by experimenting with ramps and rollers.

(Sense)-ational Explorations 

Do you think it’s possible to smell sound? Work together to investigate the influence our five senses have on how we interact with the world around us.

Storybook Tales 

Put on your thinking caps and take out your magnifying glasses! Read and analyze select books from the Questioneers series by Andrea Beaty and engineer your own creative inventions just like Iggy Peck and Rosie Revere.

Kindergarten

Weather affects our everyday lives. With extreme weather, the impacts can be more extreme. What can we do to make life habitable in the most extreme conditions? Explore natural disasters and hazards to design, build and test solutions that allow humanity to coexist with nature.

Roller Coasters 

You’re in for a great ride! Design the fastest and wildest roller coaster using a wide variety of materials to demonstrate the energy, momentum and centrifugal force needed to make it a memorable ride.

Space Systems 

Explore the mysteries of the solar system, create creatures capable of thriving on distant planets and engineer spacecraft destined for cosmic exploration.

Tell Me a Tale 2.0

Experiment with a story arc, theme and traditional archetypes to develop a retelling of a classic myth in the form of a poem! Gain an understanding of verse, rhythm and meter to build out a narrative of your liking.
