  • The Early Language and Literacy Initiative (ELLI) is a high-quality, year-round interdisciplinary approach to early childhood education designed to improve school readiness and close the achievement gap with locations in Norwalk and Fairfield, CT.
  • ELLI provides essential language and literacy-rich educational experiences for young children that are based on theory, research and community wisdom about what children need to learn and grow up successfully.
  • Stepping Stones Museum for Children and Literacy How, Inc., an organization dedicated to the application of early literacy research, created ELLI to infuse the latest early language and literacy research-based theory and practice into immersive, content-rich science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) learning experiences for museum, classroom and home environments.

Camp ELLI

Summer 2017 • 6-week program

FREE Camp for children ages 3 – 5 years
Just for Norwalk residents.

Play and learning go hand-in-hand this summer at Camp ELLI, a high-quality camp experience. Each day is action-packed with fun, hands-on activities that infuse science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) and foster early language and literacy development. Playful learning experiences enhance a child’s social and academic achievement, and can prevent learning loss from occurring during the summer months.

Camp ELLI is open to children ages 3 – 5 on a first-come, first-served basis and only for Norwalk residents. Camp groups will be led by Camp Guides trained in the ELLI approach to ensure that each child’s experiences are individualized for their unique learning level. Presented by the Early Language and Literacy Initiative (ELLI) and Norwalk Summer Academy.

Through the ELLI Goggles: Language, Literacy and Learning (L3)

Early ELLI Series

An 8 week series for children 18 – 36 months and their parent or caregiver to explore fun-filled inspired by our exhibits. Classes align with Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.

Classes are generally offered on Sundays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, from 9:15 – 10:00 am

Pricing: member $175, non-member $200

Baby and Me! NEW

Tuesdays from 9:00 – 9:45 am

A weekly program that offers toddlers and their caregivers a safe, nurturing environment that will inspire their imagination, self-expression, social interaction, and physical development while exploring a variety of literacy and STEAM based activities – such as rhymes, music, games and crafts – in our Tot Town® gallery.

Ideal for children ages 9 to 18 months. Drop-in on Tuesdays at 9:00 am – no registration required. Program runs until 9:45 am with a fee of $10, only $5 for museum members.

Pricing does NOT include regular museum admission. If non-members would like to visit the museum after class, adults will need to pay admission – children do NOT require any additional fees.
